Intel Corp. has made another new small processor which will be used in latest ultrathin laptops and is expected to create good competition for Apple as this new processor will be used by many other companies which are looking forward to make ultrathin laptops.
The new Core 2 Duo SL 7100 LV processor is similar but not exactly the same to the one presently being used in Apple MacBook Air which was specifically developed to meet the requirements of Apple. The new processor is based on 60-nanometer process and is 60% smaller than the standard-size processor.
SL 7100 LV chip consumes less power as it operates at lower speed of 1.2 GHz (with 4 MB cache) and uses 12 watts of power which is less as compared to the processor presently being used in Apple MacBook Air which operates at 1.6 GHz to 1.8 GHz and consumes 20 watts of power.
Lenovo and Fujitsu have also started using this new processor in their new ultrathin laptops which will soon be on available on sale. Lenovo will use this new processor in their new laptop ThinkPad 300 while Fujitsu will use it in LifeBook P8010.
After other leading laptop manufacturers started offering cheap laptops, now is the time for Intel to offer cheap laptops which will be priced for less than $500 in U.S. It has been named as Classmate PC Laptop. After their success in Classmate PC Laptop at various countries, Intel is now planning to launch this lower cost laptops in United States and across.
This is after their unexpected success in such low cost laptops across the globe and hence they have decided to concentrate on low cost laptops on a large scale.
It is said to be costing only for $300 or less but due to bundling of various software and features in it the cost has been fixed at $500.
This Classmate PC Laptop will be built with Intel’s Celeron Processor, which is said to be the cheapest chip that Intel manufactures.
They have even started testing this cheap laptop at various schools across the United States. And their plan is to get the computers to places where computers and laptops were actually an inaccessible product.
The features of this laptop will definitely not be as good or sophisticated as other advanced laptops but these laptops will fill in the criteria and motto of One Laptop Per Child Foundation to get low cost laptops to lower strata of people.
Intel after announcing its low cost laptops, named as Classmate PCs, has introduced new and additional features to this very low cost laptops to add more value to it. They have introduced wider screen and increasing the data storage of it. This is to compete against the new organization One Laptop per Child organization (OLPC), which is in plans of selling very low cost laptops.
This new laptop from Intel is being priced between $300 to $500 right now depending on its functionality. Their main target is going to be the U.S. school children with this laptop.
Classmate PCs are the new initiative from Intel to increase the interest in a new mobile devices which they are planning to launch namely, netbooks. It is far less features of that of a regular laptop but is easy to carry and needs very less power making it an ideal partner for the school going children.
After its launch, they have announced increasing the storage to 30 GB HDD. An web camera has been added as well as the screen size has been increased between 7 inch to 9 inch depending up on your need.
The chips designed for this laptop uses only 3 watts of power and has a speed of 1.86 Gigahertz.
Intel has plans to introduce new laptops based on anti-theft technology. This they are planning to introduce during the fourth quarter of this year. Other than this brief introduction, no other news has been released so far.
It is named as Intel Anti-Theft Technology which will be added to the Intel based laptops with Centrino vPro processors.
If stolen, this new technology will lock up the system and even the disk and hence preventing people from accessing your important data and hence providing additional protection to your important info on you laptop.
Although this technology cannot recover your laptop back but it can protect your important data stored in your laptop. This is after the recent and many instances where many of the important data of people and bigger organizations were misused once the laptop was stolen and the most recent such occurrence was that Boeing’s pilferage of social security numbers of their customers after the theft of their laptop.
This is targeted mainly for the IT managers who have been finding it hard to protect data particularly when it comes to stolen laptops and this new technology from Intel might just solve this ever increasing menace all together.
