The laptop major Dell recently launched its new laptop range with Blu-ray disc. What’s more surprising is the fact that the price of this Blu-ray laptop from Dell is just under $900 considering the cost of the Blu-ray disc drive itself. It is named as Inspiron 1525 and is considered to be cheapest in the market with the configuration mentioned.
After the war between HDD and Blu-ray got over and with Blu-ray winning it, now this is the first time that a laptop has been introduced with Blu-ray disc drive in it and that too really cheap. This could really be the start of a new series with Dell launching its very own laptop with Blu-ray and other major laptop makers will follow suite and will start launching laptops with Blu-ray disc drive in it.
This Blu-ray disc can read the regular Blu-ray disc and is wholly backwards compatible. It, apart from reading the Blu-ray disc, can write the regular DVDs and CDs and read them too. There is also an additional option of fitting it with Blu-ray burner but with extra cost.
It also comes with a regular 15.4 inch HD and 720 pixels resolution screen and all the features that the regular Inspiron series has.
Intel after announcing its low cost laptops, named as Classmate PCs, has introduced new and additional features to this very low cost laptops to add more value to it. They have introduced wider screen and increasing the data storage of it. This is to compete against the new organization One Laptop per Child organization (OLPC), which is in plans of selling very low cost laptops.
This new laptop from Intel is being priced between $300 to $500 right now depending on its functionality. Their main target is going to be the U.S. school children with this laptop.
Classmate PCs are the new initiative from Intel to increase the interest in a new mobile devices which they are planning to launch namely, netbooks. It is far less features of that of a regular laptop but is easy to carry and needs very less power making it an ideal partner for the school going children.
After its launch, they have announced increasing the storage to 30 GB HDD. An web camera has been added as well as the screen size has been increased between 7 inch to 9 inch depending up on your need.
The chips designed for this laptop uses only 3 watts of power and has a speed of 1.86 Gigahertz.
Intel has plans to introduce new laptops based on anti-theft technology. This they are planning to introduce during the fourth quarter of this year. Other than this brief introduction, no other news has been released so far.
It is named as Intel Anti-Theft Technology which will be added to the Intel based laptops with Centrino vPro processors.
If stolen, this new technology will lock up the system and even the disk and hence preventing people from accessing your important data and hence providing additional protection to your important info on you laptop.
Although this technology cannot recover your laptop back but it can protect your important data stored in your laptop. HP introduced their new ultra portable laptop named as Compaq 2133. It comes with a C7-M microprocessor which was manufactured by Taiwan’s Via Technologies rather than going for a chip from Intel and hence making it ultra cheap too.
The weight of this ultra small portable laptop is just 1.19 kg which makes it an ideal weight. It comes with 1 GHz to 1.6 GHz processor from the Taiwanese based chip maker. It runs on Windows Vista or Linux Desktop.

Toshiba is planning to launch their new range of laptops, satellite and satellite pro laptops. They are planning to launch it around the third quarter of 2008.
This new Toshiba Satellite laptop comes in a black colored glossy finish and is extremely thin. It has the textured palm rest, metallic mouse, and touch sensitive buttons with LED lightning.
It will be fitted with either AMD or Intel processors. For high end users they have loaded these laptops with ATI Mobility Radeon graphics technology. Dell has launched their new fully rugged notebook “Latitude XFR D630” which does not compromises on performance and durability and meets the US Department of Defense’s tough MIL-STD 810F specifications.
XFR D360 is capable of functioning in extreme conditions such as temperature ranging from -60 degree to 205 degree Fahrenheit; it can also handle a drop upto three feet and rain lashing upto four inches per hour. All of its components have shock isolated mounting to handle the tough treatment.

Lenovo has launched a new line of notebooks called “IdeaPad” which has been targeted to the corporate market. Y510, Y710 and U110 are the starting models of this new line. IdeaPad notebooks have great features such as hinge design, frameless screen and VeriFace face recognition and Lenovo multimedia control center.
The IdeaPad Y710 comes with 17-inchWXGA VibrantView widescreen (1440 x 900), 2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 256 MB ATI Radeon HD2600 graphic card, 2 GB RAM (expandable upto 4 GB), Dual Layer CD/DVD-RW drive with optional Blu-Ray reader, 1.3 megapixel camera, 4 Speakers and 1 subwoofer, integrated WLAN and supports upto 500 GB (5400 RPM) hard drive. The IdeaPad U110 notebook will be available in April. It will come with 11.1 inch widescreen, optional solid state hard drive and an additional battery. It will also have a unique Active Protection system which acts like an air-bag in an event of a fall to help protect data.
